You’ve probably heard about the importance of gratitude a million times over, but do you actually practise it?

Admittedly, it can be hard sometimes to be thankful, especially when life gets tough, but finding the bright spots can completely transform your life. People who’ve mastered the whole “appreciate what you’ve got” thing know this well — here’s how they see the world differently.

1. They don’t take the little things for granted.

Appreciative people get a kick out of simple pleasures — a bit of sun after days of terrible British weather, Starbucks bringing back the Pumpkin Spice Latte a few weeks early, you get the point. They’re the ones who’ll stop to smell the roses — literally — and probably point them out to you, too.

2. They see setbacks and failures as growth opportunities.

Instead of moaning about problems, they’re more likely to think, “What can I learn from this?” It’s not always easy, but it beats feeling stuck. They tend to come out of tough situations with new skills or insights, even if it’s just learning how to be more patient.
